The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence (Generative AI or GenAI) tools, including large language models (LLMs), image generation tools, and related systems, is transforming how research is conducted and how academic materials are prepared. SICE FES 2026 recognizes the potential benefits of such tools, while emphasizing academic integrity, transparency, and human responsibility.
Fundamental Principles
The use of Generative AI tools is permitted only as a supporting aid for research and presentation. The intellectual ownership, originality, and responsibility for all submitted and presented work must remain entirely with human authors. This policy applies to the use of Generative AI tools as aids for research, writing, presentation, and peer review. It does not restrict or regulate research in which AI models or algorithms themselves are the primary subject of study, including their design, analysis, control, learning, or validation.
In particular:
- Authors and presenters are fully responsible for the accuracy, validity, and integrity of their work.
- Generative AI tools must not replace human judgment, creativity, or scientific responsibility.
Acceptable Use of Generative AI Tools
The use of Generative AI tools is generally acceptable for the following purposes:
- Improving language quality, grammar, and readability
- Assisting with code formatting, refactoring, or debugging
- Supporting the preparation of figures, slides, or presentation materials
- Organizing ideas or outlining text during manuscript or presentation preparation
In all cases, authors must carefully review and verify the outputs generated by Generative AI tools.
Unacceptable or Inappropriate Use
The following uses of Generative AI tools are considered inappropriate and may constitute academic misconduct:
- Submitting Generative AI-generated content as research results without human verification
- Using Generative AI tools to fabricate, alter, or generate experimental data, results, or conclusions
- Paraphrasing or reproducing existing works via Generative AI tools without proper attribution
- Listing Generative AI tools as authors or co-authors
Disclosure of Generative AI Use
If Generative AI tools are used in a manner that materially affects the preparation of a paper, poster, or presentation, authors are strongly encouraged to disclose this use in a clear and concise manner (e.g., in an acknowledgment or a dedicated statement). At present, SICE FES 2026 does not impose a mandatory disclosure format, but transparency is considered a best practice.
Responsibilities of Reviewers and Editors
To protect confidentiality and maintain the integrity of the peer-review process:
- Submitted manuscripts, review reports, or any confidential materials must not be uploaded to Generative AI tools under any circumstances.
- Reviewers and editors must conduct evaluations based on their own independent judgment.
